Galena Loppett, Sunday the 29th

This Sunday March the 29th, send winter on its' way with the Galena Spring Loppett. For those of you who aren't familiar, the Loppett is a free ski tour around the perimeter of the Galena Nordic Trail System. The total distance is about 20 kilometers and takes most people an hour and a half to two and a half hours. There is always a mix of classic and skate skiers, so bring whichever equipment you prefer. We provide an aid station at the approximate 1/2 way point with baked goods, donuts?, hot and cold drinks and a few adult beverages.

After the tour, there is a "bring a prize, get a prize" drawing as well as a prize for the best dressed (read costume). So don't forget to bring something fun for a prize and definitely dress up.

We also have lots of great rental equipment from Salomon and Fischer on Sale, as well as great specials on clothing. So if you're thinking about some equipment, take a look in the ski shop.

Coming up.... The RIDE, STRIDE, GLIDE start getting your friends together to make a 3 person team on the 5th of April.

Now is also the Time to sign up for our Wilderness Medical Associates Wilderness First Responder and Open WFR Recertification Classes on May 27th and June 5th respectively. This is a great opportunity to learn potentially life saving skills in a great environment. Please call us at 208.726.4010 for more information on these classes.

Walla Walla Wine Dinner with Steve Thies

This Saturday night Galena Lodge will be offering a wonderful Food and Wine experience. I have put together a great menu and Steve Theis from Tastevin Wines has paired wonderful Northwest wines with each course. We will be pouring white and red wines from vintner's such as K, Cadaretta, SYZYGY, Amavi, and Three Rivers. We're looking forward to a fun evening. The dinner is at 6:30 on Saturday night and the cost is 75 dollars.

I'll be preparing a menu with Black Canyon Elk, local organic potatoes (this is the potato state after all) and passed appetizers. Just as a reminder, if you haven't gotten the chance to come up to Galena for a dinner this year this is your last chance for the winter season. Please call 726-4010 for reservations.

Dogs, Great Skiing and Full Moon Dinners at Galena Lodge

Conditions are still great up here at Galena for snow shoeing and skiing. Just look at how much fun Sadie is having. She wasn't able to make it to the Paw and Pole but I'm sure that both two and four legged participants had a great time. I think we can look forward to more great conditions this week with clear days and cool temperatures.

There is still space in our Wednesday night Full Moon Dinner. There was a great group up last night and a perfect view of the moon. Call 726-4010 for reservations.

On a sad note, everyone at Galena like to express our gratitude to everyone who was involved in the rescue and recovery efforts of Friday's Avalanche. A huge effort by Sun Valley Heli-ski as well as all of the rescue agencies who responded. Our sympathies go out to everyone in Stella's family and in the ski community. Everyone should wish Jan well as he recovers from his injuries as well. He was a real trooper during his rescue.

Mucho Nieve!!!

The Galena area has received a few feet of snow over the last week. The groomed trails still look spectacular and the back country touring is really awesome. Be wary though all this new snow has changed the snow pack dramatically. If the predictions for cold nights materialize this will be a great weekend to be out in the backcountry and skiing on the Nordic trails.

Check out the great article about Galena in SNOW magazine. Dana Plasse and Paulette Philipot put together a cool article with some great photos to highlight Galena Lodge to the rest of the world.

We have a lot of great stuff going on, Full Moon dinners are filling up for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights next week. The fabled Friday the 13th Snow Crit is starting to come together as well.

So come on up and enjoy all of the new snow, that's why you are here!!!
