Winter Trails

Galena Lodge is surrounded by some of the best cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the nation! Extending right from our doorstep is the North Valley Trail System with over 50 kilometers of immaculately groomed Nordic trails for both skate and classic skiing and over 25km of snowshoe trails.  What makes this trail system so nice?  First of all, it’s laid before the gorgeous backdrop of the Boulder Mountains – 10,000 foot peaks that glisten above the lodge presenting consistently amazing scenery.  Secondly, the terrain offers variety for all abilities from first-time skiers or snowshoers to experts.  We have several very mellow loops from the lodge for beginners.  Additionally, for XC skiing the majority of the Harriman Trail (a 30-km trail from Galena Lodge to the SNRA near Ketchum) is flat or gradually rolling with great views.  That being said, the more comfortable you get out there, the more fun to be had.  For skiing we have long challenging climbs with screaming descents, fun corners, and consistent grade changes.  And for snowshoeing our trails vary from a nice family stroll along the river to a wilderness adventure through the Idaho old growth. Frankly, it’s as good as it gets.  The BCRD (Blaine County Recreation District) and Galena Lodge maintain and groom/pack these trails impeccably – not to mention that the dry Idaho air and high elevations combine to almost guarantee several months of deep, packed powder conditions!  If you are looking more for a back-country experience on skis Galena Lodge can put you in touch with local back-country guides to get you up on the peaks of the surrounding mountains.
