Winter Programing for School Groups (January - March)
- Step 1: Pick a location
- Galena Lodge
- SNRA Headquarters
- In the classroom
- Other? Please talk to us!
- Step 2: Pick a program
- Galena Lodge Winter Wonderland Snowshoeing - Free through a cosponsorship between Galena Lodge & BCRD. Includes snowshoes, hot cocoa, and lunch (pizza, fruit and veggies). You can combine this with one of the programs below or just have a fun field trip.
- ERC Growing Great Minds Curriculum (could happen at any location)
- SNRA curriculum - https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd1069048.pdf
- Step 3: Fill out this google form to request dates and start the conversation
- Step 4: Find transportation
- You must do this through the school district - unfortunately Galena can't help with this part
- Timing
- Arrive at Galena no earlier than 9 am - bus should drop kids off at the walkway under the large Galena Lodge sign and then park across the street in the pull out
- Receive snowshoes & meet ERC or SNRA on the deck if you have planned this
- Lunch & Cocoa at 11:30 am on the deck or lawn (kids should be dressed with lots of WARM layers as we don't have an indoor space for classes!)
- Leave by 2:30 pm at the latest
- Requirements
- Teacher must have at least 1 adult chaperone per 6 kids
- Teacher is responsible for organizing transportation, first aid kits, emergency response plan, chaperones, and curriculum.
- Teacher should be familiar with Galena snowshoe trails (or partner with SNRA/ERC) and have a plan for what trail they will walk, how they will split the group etc.
- Sledding is not recommended unless closely supervised. This tends to be the most dangerous place at Galena and is not a sanctioned activity!
