What will they do at camp?
What do they eat?
Lunches and snacks are included and cooked in our kitchen at Galena Lodge.
Parents should pack additional food if their child has special dietary requirements.
How do they get there?
The counselors will pick up the kids every morning at 9:00 AM in the Ketchum YMCA parking lot and drop them off at 3:00 PM at the same location. Masks are required while in the vans.
What should I pack for them?
In a backpack:
Lightweight rain jacket
Small swim towel
Fleece pullover or sweatshirt
Extra pair socks
Closed toed shoes for hiking
What should they wear?
Please wear comfortable clothes for adventuring; T-shirt, shorts, and lightweight trail shoes with good tread are normally great. However, Look at the weather and send your child prepared (we've been known to have snow during camp).
Please mark your child’s items with a name & phone number! We are not responsible for lost or misplaced items but will do our best to ensure that lost items get back to you.
Our number one priority is to keep campers and counselors safe and healthy this summer. We therefore plan to continue taking the following COVID precautions (subject to change based on recommendations from the CDC and health department)
1) All campers and counselors will be required to wear a mask while traveling indoors, in vans, and when not able to maintain social distance of 6 feet or more.
2) All campers and counselors will wash hands and use hand sanitizer frequently - including after the bathroom, before and after eating, and when using shared equipment.
3) All campers and counselors will take their temperature answer COVID screening questions each morning.
4) There will be no sharing of personal items such as water bottles, sunscreen, clothing etc.
What not to bring
Please leave pocket knives, slingshots, BB guns, and any other dangerous items at home.
** NO ELECTRONICS! Please help us encourage kids to experience the outdoors! Toys and electronics may be taken and held until the end of the day.
What activities do they do each day?
Low team building elements and hiking
Mountain bike day! We prefer that your child bring their own bike and helmet if they have them.
Camp code of ethics
We encourage kids to have fun, respect others, and communicate. We do NOT tolerate swearing, rude, disruptive, or aggressive behavior. If a kid continues these behaviors parents will be contacted and the child may be asked to not participate in the rest of camp.
At Galena, we try to work with our campers to resolve issues as they occur. For instance, if a child uses bad language our counselors will talk to the child, have the child apologize and warn the child if this continues she/he will be asked to leave. Parents are not called at the first sign of trouble because we are not usually in the vicinity of a phone, and because we believe that teaching children to act responsibly in the absence of their guardians is a crucial part of growing up. If the child repeats the behavior- parents will be called as soon as possible and asked to pick up their child.
Full refund up to 1 month in advance of 1st day of camp.
$200.00 refund with advanced 2-week notice.
$100.00 refund with advanced 1-week notice.
No refund within one week of camp or no shows.
**There will be a $25 fee for any cancelations or changes to signups.**
Can I sign my child up who is barely too old/young for camp?
Please do not do this. Our insurance only covers the age ranges that we offer and this can really take away from the experience of the other kids at camp.
Children outside the age range they will be asked not to return and no refund will be offered.
